THE GROOVE JAZZJAZZ / COMMUNITY / AOTEAROA
YOUNG MUSICIANS. SHARED MOMENTS.

Good music.
Closer together.

Bringing the joy of live jazz to older people and, next, to young children. A youth-led community music project in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Meet The Groove Jazz
01 / WHY WE PLAY

A room full of people.
A reason to keep playing.

It began with a jazz combo organising a visit to an aged-care home. The room filled up. Residents responded warmly and welcomed the group back.

One resident told the band that they had not expected to enjoy jazz — and found that they did.

The band received more than $100 in support for its operation. The musicians took no personal earnings from the event and still covered costs such as travel.

“这就是 music 的意义。”“This is what music means.” — English translation of the organiser’s reflection, as shared by his parent.

Story based on the family’s account. Venue, date, donation total and publication permissions to be confirmed before public release. No testimonial approval is implied.
